Become a mentor

Over the past five decades, World Affairs’ one-of-a-kind education programs have inspired and equipped close to 10,000 young people to be global citizens. Students meet with leading experts, work with local nonprofits, explore international careers and study abroad, as they strengthen their leadership skills, civic engagement and geopolitical awareness.

Join our youth-centered civic and leadership programs.

Four hours of your time can change young lives forever.

World Affairs needs mentors who’ve managed or started a non-profit or business, organized at the grassroots level or are professionals in the world of international affairs.

During our spring, summer, or fall Global Citizens Certificate programs in San Francisco or the East Bay, our volunteer mentors run one student workshop on building their own business or starting a non-profit organization, then guide participants as they develop a project proposal about an issue with a global-local connection. The total time commitment is one hour per week for four weeks, and in that short time, you’ll broaden horizons and open minds, getting as much as you give—and then some.

We’re happy to answer all your questions during the sign-up process.

We are grateful for your time and expertise, so to express our thanks, all mentors will receive a complimentary individual World Affairs membership, valid for one year.
