North Korea is once again in the headlines with reporting that North Korea may be contemplating a preemptive military strike somewhere in the Asia Pacific—presumably South Korea or Japan. Philip Yun, who served in the Clinton Administration during high-level nuclear negotiations with North Korea, will discuss recent trends and why some North Korea watchers are warning of coming conflict. Come hear what the North hopes to accomplish with these provocations, and how the US and its allies should respond.

Speaker:
Philip Yun is Co-President and Co-CEO of Commonwealth Club World Affairs (CCWA). Previously, Mr. Yun was Executive Director and CEO of Ploughshares Fund. He was a vice president at The Asia Foundation and a Pantech Scholar in Korean Studies at the Shorenstein Asia Pacific Research Center at Stanford University. During the Clinton administration, he was Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
