The digital transformation is forcing people, businesses and governments to adapt, integrate and regulate the explosive development of new technologies. The tools that allow us to transcend borders can be turned into transgressions. The unparalleled connection created by SpaceX’s Starlink – the network of over four thousand internet satellites – is an asset in conflict zones like Ukraine and rests in the hands of just one person: Elon Musk. State and multinational organizations are racing to catch up to artificial intelligence’s exponential growth. Production of semiconductor chips has become a major source of hostility between China and the US.

To directly interact with the companies at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, countries are deploying tech envoys and tech ambassadors in Silicon Valley. Their role is to build relations, engage in dialogue and conduct negotiations on global digital policy and emerging technological issues. The Tech Diplomacy Network was launched in 2023 as a hub for the diplomatic community to foster collaboration between governments, civil society, academia and the tech industry in the Bay Area and beyond.

World Affairs is proud to host the Tech Diplomacy Network at the Emerging Leaders Club on Thursday, September 28 at 6:00 PM PT in our World Affairs lounge. Martin Rauchbauer, Co-Director and Founder of the Tech Diplomacy Network, will share the latest on the network’s efforts and how citizen diplomats can affect change in the complex world of technology and its geopolitical implications.

Bring yourselves and your questions, and we’ll bring the drinks and snacks!
