“The gender inequalities exposed by the Covid-19 pandemic follow different paths but almost always end up the same: Women have suffered disproportionate economic harm from the crisis.” – Chie Aoyagi, an economist in the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OAP).
Progress in closing the global economic gender gap has backslid by two generations since 2020, with estimates on parity shifting from 99.5 years to 151 years away. Breaking the barriers to women’s participation in the labor force could unleash an additional $5.3 trillion to global GDP according to the US Strategy on Global Women’s Economic Security, increasing economic security and prosperity for everyone.
Join World Affairs in collaboration with Global Fund for Women and The Women’s Building in person on Wednesday, March 8 at 6:00 PM PT for a conversation with leading changemakers on the frontlines of dismantling obstacles and empowering women, internationally and here in the Bay Area. Hear how social impact for gender equity works in practice from our distinguished panelists: Caroline Barlerin, CEO of Platypus Advisors and Board Director of Global Fund for Women; Tania Estrada, Executive Director of The Women’s Building; and Elle Ballard, CEO of Women of the World Network.
Explore the challenges and opportunities for accelerating economic parity, increasing women’s participation in the workforce, promoting equal access to financial resources, and leading purpose-driven social impact. Following the panel, engage with other local impact-oriented professionals during a networking reception over drinks and hors d’oeuvres. For activists, students, working professionals, allies for equity and social justice and beyond: this event is not to be missed.
