On October 7, Hamas carried out a murderous attack against civilians in Israel. Israel has responded with extensive air strikes and a ground invasion that has resulted in widespread destruction in the Gaza Strip. Both sides have been accused of violating the rules governing the conduct of war and committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

Stanford Law School Professor Allen Weiner will discuss the relevant law of armed conflict (or “international humanitarian law”) and when violations amount to war crimes or other serious violations of international humanitarian law in the context of the war currently being waged in Gaza.
